Best of 2005

Although I'm certainly no Ansel Adams or Diane Arbus, I've had a lot of fun taking pictures this year with my new digital camera, and I had a really hard time choosing one to submit to the weekly Photo Friday challenge.  In the end it seems that nearly all of my favorite pictures were of either the ocean or my son, which I guess says all there is to say about where my heart lies.  Here are some of my favorites, some of which I've posted before (click the picture to see them full-sized):

Img_0011_2  My camera was a Mother's Day present.  My other Mother's Day present was the pin that Liam is holding, which is the sign language for "I Love You."  This was one of the very first pictures I took after getting the camera.

Img_0077 Our first trip down to the beach with the new camera.  S chose this one to be put on coffee mugs for his parents for Christmas, and they loved it.

Img_0083 Probably my favorite picture of Liam all year.  I even used it on our Christmas cards, and everyone has remarked that it captures him perfectly.

Img_0069I met Liam's class for lunch one day at River Road park.  After lunch and a nature walk, the kids were allowed to run amok for awhile, then we took a popsicle break.

Img_0120 This isn't a wonderful photograph, but I love it anyway.  This is Liam inside the giant claw at the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher

Img_0229 The night of summer solstice Liam and I headed for the beach after his t-ball game.  He is the very height of fashion in his purple t-ball team shirt and the bright yellow Batman utility belt.

Img_0299 Liam and his best friend C on one of the best days of the summer.  Liam and I spent the day at the beach with 2 of his pals from preschool, their mamas and younger siblings.  I love the north end of Carolina Beach, where you can drive onto the beach, and the nine of us had a great time.

My sister and Liam at Mama's.  I keep this one on my desk.  Liam loves his Aunt Tracy.

Img_0449 I took this from my beach chair on Labor Day.  I use it as my desktop wallpaper and it never fails to calm me.

Img_0540_1 Taken at the end of October from the Kure Beach pier on a beautiful Sunday when I absolutely had to get out of the house.

Img_0575 Liam and his grandma's dog Sugar.  He mentions every single day of his life that he needs a dog.

Img_0591_1 One morning out my back door.  I don't much like getting up early, but beauty like this makes it a little easier.

Img_0595 Another morning out my back door.  I love the dark bare branches against the sky.

Img_0600 Sometimes we have beautiful sunsets, too.  My house faces directly west and I first spotted this from my office and ran outside to capture it before it completely went away.

Img_0660 This sunset picture was taken on my birthday.  It's sort of dark and melancholy, just like I was.

Img_0682 The traditional Christmas picture of Liam and his beloved cousin Bethany.  My mama is going to love this one.
